Marketing Director Position

The Red River Waterway Commission, located in Natchitoches, Louisiana, is currently accepting applications for a Marketing Director. Examples of job duties are:

Scope:

Duties shall include: promoting and increasing marine transportation, economic, industrial, community and recreational development in the Red River Waterway District.

Job Summary:

Support ongoing economic development program for the Red River and Red River Valley. The Red River Waterway Commission will act as the umbrella or coordinating agency to work in cooperation with the municipalities, parishes, port commissions and economic development agencies in the District. The Marketing Director shall also act as the lead staffer in working with the public relations firm in promoting public awareness of the Red River.

Knowledge/Skills

Education: Bachelorís Degree in related field preferred

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Must be enthusiastic, innovative and imaginative.

Knowledge and experience in economic development and familiarity with transportation services is a plus. Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are a must. Knowledge of local, regional and national issues as these matters relate to Louisiana is also a plus. Must be able to work in an office environment, along with a Board of Directors. Progressive responsibility must be evidenced in previous employment. Other skills include: leadership and management skills, public finance and budget preparation, marketing, customer relations strategies, strategic planning, creative problem solving, economic development, federal and state grant and program management, non-profit or public sector experience, knowledge of financial instruments and capital markets and commitment to ethical conduct and principles.

Experience

Prefer at least 5 years experience in economic development, business management/ development, marketing/public awareness, and/or related field.

Summary of Core Competencies

Demonstrate project and people management skills, including fostering a strong team-oriented office environment. Must possess excellent analytical and decision making skillsóboth strategic and tactical. Able to effectively navigate through and accomplish goals while balancing political, financial, technical and public requirements. Must be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and be able to speak effectively to the media, high level business and political leaders and general public. Flexibility, patience and creativity are essential.

Salary Range

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Vacation and sick leave is provided and health, dental, and retirement benefits are offered.

Major Job Duties

1. Expand cargo tonnage, market share and revenue base for the Red River Valley

Region.

2. Work with the Port Commissions on the development of infrastructure needs.

3. Interact with river users, utility companies, communities, port commissions and

economic development agencies in marketing the Red River Valley as a site

location for industry.

4. Establish and maintain constructive relationships with users, barge operators, motor carriers and railways serving the facilities of the Red River and coordinate with other private and governmental transportation interests.

5. Keep abreast of changing market trends.

6. Serve and interact with representatives of industrial and commercial enterprises

as well as various working committees related to transportation, import and

export traffic, and stimulation of domestic and international business.

7. Assist with the coordination of local, state and national seminars and

conferences.

8. Interact with appropriate agencies and organizations in the promotion of

recreational opportunities.
